History of the Guilford County Program

History of the Guilford County Program

When the Master Gardener program began in mid 1970's, its focus was primarily directed at diagnosing plant problems and offering solutions. While still a major focus, Extension Master Gardener volunteers are now designing and presenting proactive educational programs that address critical issues such as safe pest management practices, water quality protection, yard waste management and composting. Master Gardener's reach adult and youth audiences. Through their participation in educational activities, Extension Master Gardener volunteers also increase their own personal knowledge in horticulture.

.. The EMG program has provided me with a knowledge of many phases of gardening through the classroom part of the program. It has kept me active in the outdoors doing something that I love. I have met many new friends with whom I can discuss all sorts of gardening topics, work with them in the Community Garden and have fun and good food at our lunch and dinner outings. Wouldn't take anything for the EMG program.
